  • Rocket Robin Tournament for the Animals Returns in July

It’s time for Rocket Robin, the summer charity tournament to benefit the Capital Area Humane Society! The entry fee will be $10, with $9 going to the charity and $1 to the IFPA for sanctioning.

The format will be straight up head-to-head match play in a round robin style. Because we almost certainly won’t have the time to do a complete round robin, we will instead use “Strict Swiss” pairing to do as much of a round robin as possible. At the end of a designated time period the tournament will end and the person with the most wins (1 point per win) will be the champion.

As far as I know this is the only IFPA tournament in Michigan to use this format, so it’s unique if nothing else! There will be trophies, a translite giveaway, and the satisfaction of knowing you supported a worthwhile cause.

The tournament will start at 6 pm on July 10, and the last round will start at or before 10 pm.

  • Rocket Robin Returns in July

Rocket Robin, Michigan’s only IFPA-sanctioned round robin pinball tournament, will be returning again on Tuesday, July 9 at 6:30 pm. We will play a round robin tournament or as many rounds of one as time permits (using true Swiss pairings). Everyone plays the entire tournament and you are guaranteed not to play the same person twice! The cost to enter is $10 plus coin drop. This is a charity tournament, so $9 of each entry fee will go to the Capital Area Humane Society and the other $1 will be used to pay the IFPA tithe. As always, there will be themed trophies and plenty of fun for players of all skill levels.

As the LPL is on hiatus during July, this will let everyone scratch the pinball itch. We will also have SummerSlam qualifying open before the tournament.

  • Rocket Robin returns to the Avenue

The Lansing Pinball League is pleased to announce the return of Michigan’s only round robin* tournament! The third annual Rocket Robin will support the Capital Area Humane Society. This is an IFPA sanctioned event, and the top three will receive trophies.

Everyone is invited to play, and all skill levels are welcome.  The cost will be $10, with $9 from each entry fee going to the Capital Area Humane Society, and $1 to the IFPA for their sanctioning fee.

*We will play however many rounds we can get in within the allotted time. Depending on turnout and other factors, this may or may not be a full round robin, but we will be using Swiss pairings, which results in a good simulation of round robin even if we do not get through a full round robin.

  • League Night Recap (Sort of) for 7/12 and Preview for 7/26

Unfortunately, I was not at the league night of July 12 (the Season 7 opener) due to a family vacation. From what I hear from Mike S., it was as hot as the devil’s armpit. Matt tried to mitigate this by having a “downstairs party” consisting of Iron Man, World Cup Soccer, Jack-Bot, Metallica, and Getaway, but it was still miserable, and people spent much of the night standing under the AC vent above the ATM.  I have also heard that some new people joined, and Matt expects yet more new people tomorrow.  It’s great to see the league growing.

Because I wasn’t there, I have no photos this time, though I should note that photos from the Rocket Robin tournament of 6/28 (which earned $160 for the Capital Area Humane Society) are now available in the photo gallery. I do have the results for the night for your perusal.

We’re now coming up on the second night of this season, tomorrow (today, really) at 7 p.m.  Matt will be absent this time, leaving me to run the circus for the first time.  We will be playing whichever of the following are currently cooperating: Indiana Jones, Tales of the Arabian Nights, World Cup Soccer, Getaway, Monster Bash, and Addams Family.  As usual, the number of games played will be determined by the number of players in attendance.
